Families across Tameside, Saddleworth and the wider North West are joining a growing call for the NHS to formally recognise Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) as a lifelong condition.

Cardiac Assessment in ADHD

This guideline explains what heart checks are needed before starting stimulant medication in children with ADHD. It outlines when a simple cardiovascular assessment is enough, and when an ECG or referral to cardiology is needed. It helps clinicians make safe, evidence‑based decisions, especially for children with known heart conditions or risk factors.

Open Access Letter

This letter is useful in children with heart defects where there is a possibility that they may require a more timely review at their local hospital. The local paediatrician with expertise in cardiology (PEC) will be responsible for agreeing this process for named patients only. Please be aware that not all Level 3 services can support ‘open access’ and urgent review may have to be sought via the GP or emergency services if appropriate.
