YOUR FEEDBACK IS EXTREMELY USEFUL & MOST APPRECIATED
(closes 31st July 2026)
A study into the implementation and use of Critical Safety Management Systems (CSMS) in cardiac surgery has been launched as part of an MSc at Imperial College London. This follows the nationwide adoption of a CSMS in maternity and neonatal services which is based on:
- Capture of near-real time data on poor outcomes
- Flagging or ‘signalling’ when a unit or Trust has outlier status
- Completion of a critical safety check
The study aims to capture learning from colleagues in Trusts, ICBs and regions who are working in cardiac surgery.
The survey asks questions around the suitability of a CSMS in cardiac services. Questions are based around 3 key themes: technical factors including data flow, human factors including time and resources, and the general design of the system. The survey can be accessed here or scan the QR code above. It takes approximately 3-5 minutes to complete and is open until the end of July. Participation is completely voluntary and data will remain confidential and findings anonymous. The survey can be exited at any time.
Interviews will also be conducted as part of this work from June-July 2026 – there is an option to sign up in the survey. If you have any questions about this study, please contact bcm22@ic.ac.uk
